I am So Dumb.....

So... Yesterday I had back surgery. I had an internal epidural steroid injection with 2 nerves being severed to reduce pain I have. I hate water so to stay hydrated all day I drink caffeine free Ices tea. I like to make it myself . I boil water and pour it into a thermos and throw in 2 bags of tea, my favorite flavor from starbucks " calm ". Well last night I was going through tea quickly, so i decided to make a triple batch of tea and store it in the fridge till I needed it. So, I got a glass pitcher that I use in the summer when its hot, i didn't think about it being 39 degrees outside last night. As I poured boiing hot water in the glass pitcher it shattered on the counter in front of me and all the hot water came splashing onto my legs. I was wearing sweat pants and a hoodie. As I pulled my pants off my skin pealed off with it. My boyfriend Ryan called the paramedics as iIstarted to go into shock. THIS IS MY RIGHT LEG
Right leg again
my Left leg
this is leaving the hospital the skin was rolling off i have seccond degree burns on 60% of the front of my thight on the right, and 30 % of my left leg and about 12 inches by 3 inches across my stomach.

This is my right neg the next morning (today Saturday 11/22/08) the shinny part is raw skin where the top layer just pealed off after the blisters pop. you can see the yellosh spots are the newest blister getting full
This is my left leg the next morning the big red patch is raw skin and the is blister you can see right next to it on the inner thigh that os the size of a silver dollar and hangs like a nut sack, I think its the next to burst.
Left leg again you can see the nutsck blister a little better here. Look closley the skin is ripping over it.
Outer part of my right leg next day. So I'm off work till 12/1/08 at least. As you can imagine I cant wear pants and its difficult wearing a skirt but at least I'm covered. I have to lift the front of the skirt off my legs when I walk its really embarrassing. They sent me home with 40 morphine tabs. I'm taking 2 /15 mg morphine every 3 hours and an additional on 30 min later if the pain isn't being reduced. I have to get a follow up and probably see a urn specialist before heading back to work. I have to file for disability on Monday.

My sweet boyfriend took me to Walgreens at 330 am to get medications on the way home form the emergency room. He bought me a tuperwear pitcher to use from now on to make my tea. I was so scared to make a new pot last night but I did, you have to get back up on the housre so to speak. This time I put the pitcher in the sink just in case it wanted to melt and burst, but it did great.

Well morphines is kicking in time for a nap.

I am finding your pictures very interesting. this is day 4 of my burn caused by about 3 cups of boiling sup splashing on me while I was moving it sitting in a chair.

I got about 8 inches of my stomach by 4 and about 4 by 2 inch on my legs and it hurts like crazy. I could not put water on it right away as thew [pan was slipping form my grasp ready to pur two quarts of it on me and I had to hold on in tghe face of intense pain. I havce been putting on it raw honey, lavendar essential oil and apple cider vinegar clothes with water on them too as well as a little colloidal silver as this is what I saw would help on curezone and several big blisters former and then the painful raw skin..now it is scabby and bleeding and the scab is thick surrounded by red and last night I got more blisters on the red part I thought had healed.

i only use the treatment when in bed as it is messy and sticky. I cover the honey with a wet cloth and go to sleep also sprinkling lavendar on it so I hope it is healing me faster but your pictures helped me see how long oyurs was taking so it seems it is helping some as I am already at the think scab stage of the worst stomach burn. tonight I thought the leg was better and slightly touched it and skin fel off and now it hurts.

I wanted to post a trick for you I have used for decades. Never put boiling water into glass even if it is thick. If doing that, first put the container in the sink and grab a big bunch of butter knives, forks and spoons and big knives with silver blades and put it all metal side and handle side down for the butter knives in the container and slowly add the water.

The silverware absorbs the heat..if too hot, put more dry spoons etc in or take some out and run under cool water and then reinsert then to absorb more of the heat..Bealle them in for a while till it cools some.

I cannot recall any glass breaking after I did that but thin glass is a little dangerous so stick with thicker glass or ceramic and it is good you got the Tupperware but in case you have to use glass again, this tip might help..and maybe you could put some kind of shield like plastic place mats or tablecloth between you and the sink and maybe sit in a chair in case it would happen to burst to deflect most of it back into the sink..

Sorry that happened to you and the hospital was so non-helpful

Always hold a burn under cold water or get in a cold tub..if you cant get towels soak in cold water and put on the burns right away as it does continue to bake the skin..I think that delay and not being able to run my thigh and stomach under the sink water and uses wet cloths cause it to burn more..it looks very much like yours but not as extensive but still bad.

Today I formed white crusty areas on some of the edges of the scabs but I do not think it is infected so not sure if that is part of the healing or what but I think it is as it is around some of the edges of the scab and now a few spots are rising off the skin--the edges of the scab that is).

Did your leg remain red or did that go away after the scabs part healed?

Do you have scarring,..maybe there are more pictures I have not seen yet so I will look but hope you are back to normal now.

The third degree one look very scary but the 2nd also looks gross. Both the raw skin and the blisters everywhere.

I remember decades ago my little brother pulled the handle of boiling soup off the stove unto him and had to be in a burn unit crying for some time. My mom felt so guilty for not thinking of the placement of the handle but he was just or 3 and I guess she thought he could not reach it or never thought of it.

I hope this heals faster than yours did as I did not realize it might take that long.
